Want to create an amazing container garden for your porch or patio?
Follow these few tips and you will be well on your way!
It works every time!
Thriller, Filler, Spiller!
Thriller– The centerpiece. Something with star quality! It needs to be seen from all sides. Caladium, Mandevilla, hibiscus, canna, spike, purple fountain grass…..you get the picture!
Filler– This is my favorite. Foliage or flowering plants that will accent but not overwhelm the thriller. It adds color and bulk to the overall piece and it also serves to hide the bones of the thriller. Asparagus fern, dusty miller, coleus, marigolds, begonias, petunias, New Guinea impatiens! We have tons to choose from at Gale’s!
Spiller- A plant that will flow and cascade over the top and down the side. The spiller gives it the true designer look. It generally softens the overall appearance and draws your eyes downward. Vinca, ivy, lobelia, sweet potato vine, bacopa and more! Ask one of Greenhouse Experts to steer you in the right direction.
Before you buy, decide where you are going to place your container garden and do a little homework to make sure the plants that you choose will work together when it comes to sunlight and watering.
Get creative and add some ornamentation to your container garden. A small garden spinner or a shepherd's hook with a small windchime would be perfect! Don’t forget about all the little creatures we have perched around the store! They always add a touch of whimsy and fun! All of us could use a bit more of that in our lives!
