When Groundhogs Aren't Cute

2/13/2024

Controlling groundhogs involves a combination of preventive measures, humane deterrents, and, in some cases, professional assistance. To begin with, securing your property is crucial. Seal any openings or gaps in fences and structures, as groundhogs are adept diggers. Installing a fence around your garden can also be effective, burying it at least a foot below the surface to prevent burrowing.

Consider using natural deterrents to discourage groundhogs. Planting strong-smelling herbs like mint or garlic around your garden may help repel them. Additionally, sprinkling a mixture of cayenne pepper and water on plants can act as a deterrent due to its spicy scent.

Live traps are humane options for trapping groundhogs. Once caught, release them far away from your property in a suitable habitat. If the infestation persists, seeking professional help may be necessary. Exterminators or wildlife control services can provide more advanced solutions, ensuring the removal of groundhogs without causing harm to them or your property. Remember to research and follow local regulations regarding wildlife control.
