Early Spring Fruit Tree Care & Prep!

Early spring is a critical time for fruit tree care, as it sets the foundation for the growing season. Start by inspecting the trees for any signs of winter damage, such as broken branches or disease, and prune them to remove any dead or damaged wood. This is also the time to shape the tree, improving its structure and allowing better air circulation and light penetration. Applying a dormant oil spray is essential in early spring to control overwintering pests like aphids and mites. Fertilizing the trees at this stage is important; use a balanced fertilizer to provide the necessary nutrients for growth and fruit development. Mulching around the base of the tree helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, but keep the mulch away from the trunk to prevent rot. Finally, ensure the trees are watered adequately, especially if the winter was dry, to support their new growth. By taking these steps in early spring, you'll help your fruit trees thrive throughout the season.
